The Summerland backroads and Kettle Valley Railway section run through the cowboy country of South-Central Okanagan. Bench cut terraces shape the topography back here where gravel roads giddy-up through mixed forest and grasslands. The eyes and legs will feast while churning the legs up the curvy gravel switchbacks cut into clay embankments covered with sage and meadow flowers. Keep your head up and enjoy your surroundings on this 79 KM route with climbing coming quickly in the profile, which is ironically shaped like a cowboy hat. The rollout at beginning and end on Kettle Valley rail grade makes for good warm-up ahead of the hills, and a much-needed spinout for the legs at day’s end.
